33-year-old co-worker never had a proper school lunch, so working mom packs him the most wholesome millennial-nostalgic lunchbox: ‘He needs to heal his inner child’

A fun part of parenting is making your kids lunch for when they go to school. You have to make sure they're healthy, but also having a little fun. That means packing the essentials, like fruits and veggies, but also a treat like a brownie and a cute little note that calls them your special little guy in rainbow colored pencil. Heck, if you'd get that now in your work lunch your heart would probably instantly fill with joy. That's because it would be healing to your inner child. Every child deserves lunch, especially a lunch that makes them fill loved and special. Back in the early oughts when I was growing up, I'd get my hot buttered noddles, a Fruit Roll-Ups, and an original piece of napkin artwork from my mom or dad. It was something I looked forward to every day. Plus, if you've got the really good stuff, I'm talking Cosmic Brownies, Gushers, homemade cookies from your grandbma, you'd be the most popular kid in the lunch room to trade with.

This mom went to work and found out that her co-worker never got anything like that for lunch. She mentioned she served her son hot mac and cheese for lunch and it literally made him pause and state, "my mother didn't love me, did she?" That broke her heart, so she went to work to making her co-worker—who is a chef, btw—the classic school lunch, with extra millennial nostalgia since he is 33-years-old…

"So the other day at work, I was talking about packing lunch for my son and my coworker Zac was like, ‘Mac and cheese?! You pack your son cold Mac and cheese?’ And I was like, 'no, idiot. I have a thermos that keeps it warm until lunchtime.’ And he paused and then goes, '…my mother didn't love me, did she? I wish somebody would pack me a lunch like that.'
So my mission today is to pack my coworker Zac a lunch the same way I would pack one for [my son] Wyatt. Apparently he needs to heal his inner child, so I wanna help with that."
